INTRODUCTION
YOGA & MEDITATION |
Introduction to
activities in Bali around Yoga and meditation.
 |
To be honest: one
would expect more of meditation or Yoga within the Hindu
culture of Bali, than one can find on the island. There
are very few local places – nothing like an “Ashram”
as you would find in India.
But global “Spiritual
Dawn” has brought some Westerners to open Meditation
shops, classes, and Yoga retreats.
|
So the
teacher you would find in Bali will most probably be German,
English or American. Which
is O.K.-given the fact, that a Westerner who has set out to
study meditation or Yoga, and takes it even as far as teaching
it, is certainly serious about it to have integrated it in his
life style, and serious enough to become a good teacher. What
I would not be able to say about some of the local teachers
I have “studied” with.
Some foreign (to Bali) Yoga teachers have even started to deliver
Yoga teacher trainings, because there are serious enough Balinese,
that would like to learn meditation and Yoga, in order to later
teach it – but can not find profound education within
their peers.
If you are
an (international renowned) Yoga teacher, and are willing to
learn Bahasa Indonesia – you would have a big student
body and very well able to sustain your life on Bali. If your
English is fair enough, you could teach upper class Tourists,
and in Star Hotel Resorts, that are constantly looking for good
teachers.

Of course,
Bali has been internationally recognized as a unique center
of healing and creative inspiration. In particular for its Dukuns,
Balians (shaman) and traditional healers. Bali’s tropical
spas, outstanding natural accommodation
and Balinese traditional
healers & holistic
practitioners from around the world make Bali the world's
leading destination for cultural
experiences, healing & relaxation. To find
meditation, yoga , we suggest the following:
Suggestions:
Vipassana meditation. An ancient method of silencing your mind,
and allowing for the changes (that are happening anyway) to
happen, without judgement or interaction. Taught by the Buddha
himself, this method has been carefully handed down over the
1500 years, by a lineage of Vipassana teachers (out of Burma
and India), and is today spread all over the planet with retreat
centers and international teachers.
In Bali
there are frequent Vipassana courses and retreats.
On Java,
there is a Vipassana retreat center:
