It kills me to say this, but I wouldn’t say I like gift box with ribbon, and I’m bad at it. An elegantly dressed advantage is a beautiful thing to behold and a thoughtful way to convey how much you care.
Instead of moaning about yet another year of bad folding corners and misplaced bows, I sought the help of Maureen Lowe, owner of Creatively Inspired in upstate New York.
Choose A Sturdy Gift Wrap.
While low-cost paper may seem like a good idea, Lowe says the price you pay in stress and tears will be too high. Hallmark stores, Paper Source, and retail outlets like HomeGoods, HomeSense, and T.J.Maxx are her go-to when shopping for high-quality gift wrap.
She claims that all three dollar stores sell the same paper for around $3 per roll. Hallmark and Paper Source rolls range in price from about $4 to $10, depending on how many essays you purchase.
Lowe advises upgrading from standard issue tape to a more high-performing adhesive if you plan on using textured or fancy wrapping paper. Lowe says, “you’ll have a hard time getting the tape to attach if the paper has glitter on it or if it has a little bit of texture and it’s not a flat paper.”
Instead, she suggests Supertape, a transparent double-sided tape with removable strips on both sides. She guarantees that “it will attach to anything: glitter paper, textured paper, ribbon,” and that “it’s easy to work with, quick to cut.”
You can hide the tape completely by applying it to the underside of the packaging rather than the top, as you would with ordinary video. If you’re looking for a reliable tape, go no further; this is the greatest one I’ve ever used.
Use Good Scissors
You don’t want jagged edges like that on your paper, so don’t skimp on the scissors, too, advises Lowe. The Westcott Titanium Bonded Scissors are her go-to, and she uses large and small sizes for different tasks.
According to her, “you can’t beat the quality for the price,” and after using them for about three years, she still hasn’t had to sharpen them. If you want a clean cut through gift wrap, you’ll need scissors that glide smoothly. 1 2 3
Spend On Decorations
A well-presented gift can be made or broken by the ribbon and bow used to finish it. Lowe believes that a medium-width wire-edged ribbon “will look best on most parcels and the wire will help you form your bow and hold its shape,” which is the only material you need to create that wrapped-by-a-professional look. She has a ton of wire-edged ribbon from Michaels’ in-store brand, Celebrate It, and a roll of ribbon she likes from Costco’s Kirkland brand.
